BOAT RAMP COMMITTEE
By: Joe Hammond, Chairperson
I have chaired this committee for the past three years. Our
primary responsibility is to make sure all boat ramps are accessible,
attractive and functioning.
The Association is responsible for three (3) boat
ramps. These are located at:
1. Lakeshore
Drive and Knollwood Road
2. Lakeshore
Drive – between house numbers 3427 & 3435
3. Forest Lake Drive – between house numbers 3508 & 3516
Each of the above ramps can be identified by white vinyl
fencing and a locked gate.
Signage is to be added shortly to help further identify
them. Keys are issued to residents who become members of the association for a
refundable deposit of $10.00.
The same key will work all three gates.
The ramp at Lakeshore & Knollwood is considered our main
boat ramp. The concrete ramp was poured just last year and lots of gravel
added. Due to its high visibility, the Association now has the grass mowed
there regularly (together with the causeway). Aestheically, we have done some
landscaping within the boatramp this year, added two short brick garden walls,
and a stand-alone brick column at its entry. Landscape lighting has been added
to this column and the five (5) old cherry trees (along Knollwood) are now
up-lighted as well.
A project for 2004 was to clean-up the other two boat
ramps. On the Forest Lake Drive side, we cleared some of the brush and moved
the gate forward to allow more space to turn your vehicle around. This was
done with the approval and permission of the owner Frankie Jeffords. The second
ramp, on Lakeshore Drive, received new vinyl fencing and a new gate. It is
privately owned and maintained now by the Association. We have relied on the
generosity of its neighbors to keep the grass and weeds mowed, however, the new
Board may want to consider adding this to our regular causeway mowing schedule.
Several other boat ramps provide access to the lake but are
privately owned and are not maintained by the Association. One is on the east
side of the lake (Waterford) where the Association has no jurisdiction
whatsoever.
I trust that a volunteer will step forward for 2005 (all the
hard stuff has been done!). I am of course, always available for help and
consultation. Thank you,
Joe Hammond
